Cliché

Do not buy her
Rings and roses;
For she will fall
For them, not you.

Do not make him
Cards and cupcakes;
For he will fall
For them, not you.

Do not give her
Cuddles and kisses,
Or she will crave
For them, not you.

Do not give him
Pretty pictures,
Or he will crave
For them, not you.

Show her your silly childhood crush,
Tell him your favourite shade of blue;
Humbly reveal the mistakes you’ve made,
Proudly display the scars of your past.

Lay bare your soul,
Piece by precious piece;
Meld their scattered pieces with yours
And you will never want for more
Roses, cards, or even words.
For when your hearts can beat as one,
Is there any need for you
To proclaim once a year that you're
Madly, truly, and deeply entrenched
In the most clichéd cliché of them all:

Love.
